Do the fushigi yuugi manga books go further than the anime series?

... im just wondering beacause if they do then i will DEFINATELLY read them|||The 52 episodes of the series are adapted from the first 12 volumes of the manga (the main initial plot). Since the manga had been a success the later 6 volumes are additionally written. I can't recall much but it had an almost entirely different plot.





The OVA series of Fushigi Yugi anime is adapted from the later 6 volumes I believe.





I do actually suggest you to read the manga, though. From what I remember it was a lot more consistent to the storyline than the anime.
